I am currently looking for land to pasture raise broilers. I have been around farming and agriculture since I was a child. I have many relatives that went to Penn State for Agricultural degrees and are still full-time farmers today. It is something I have always been interested in, but pursued a career in real estate and construction. I’m now wanting to start more actively engaging in farm businesses and have settled on a good first start being to pasture raise broiler chickens for regional sale. I am looking for a farm within two hours of Pittsburgh with at least 20 acres of pasture, ideally 40 or so. Farm Buildings would be a plus, even if they need some work, and a house on site would also be a plus, even something small that needs work.

My wife and I have experience with cut flower gardens on a micro scale. We have grown various seasonal blooms, such as zinnias, dahlias, roses, tulips, marigolds, salvia, stock flower, delphinium, orlaya, mint, and much more! Through our experiences at local flower patches, and our experience growing cut flowers we have grown a passion of sustainable flower farming and agritourism that connects the local community back to creation and nature.

We are looking to establish a sustainable, community-focused cut flower farm specializing in both a U-pick business model and direct-to-consumer sales. Our primary goal is to curate an engaging on-farm experience where local visitors can select their own seasonal blooms, paired with a retail component offering pre-assembled specialty bouquets, CSAs, and local farm market pop-ups. We aim to utilize sustainable and regenerative farming methods to maximize field productivity, cultivate pollinator habitats, and provide the local community with vibrant, fresh-cut flowers. We also aim to provide additional agritourism opportunities, such as pumpkin patches, for families to enjoy. We are seeking land that offers optimal sun exposure, clean water access, and the right infrastructure to welcome the public and scale a specialty crop operation.

I am someone who has found myself feeling very passionate about land conservation and farming for my family. I don’t have a lot of experience, just a backyard garden that I’m managing to keep alive in the Sonoran Desert. (That has to count for at least a point or two.)

My best friend and I are dreaming of a life where we can both live on the same property and grow foods for ourselves, our extended family, and maybe even a farm stand. This would ideally be located in Pennsylvania, so that I can return to my home state and be around family. I want fruit trees and berry bushes, chickens and goats, a very large veggie garden and plenty of flower gardens as well. I intend fully to create habitats of native plants, flowers, and trees for animals and bugs native to the area.

I just don’t know where to start or how to acquire land without putting myself in debt.
