Entering Farmer 20051

We are a married couple with young kids looking for an opportunity to start farming. My grandparents were dairy farmers in Chester County and my cousins currently are dairy farmers in Montgomery County.

I currently work in the Conservation/Agricultural field in the Southeast/South Central part of the state. We don’t have much experience, several years working on several dairies and experience with processing/jugging milk, but I have always wanted to be a farmer and have a true passion for farming and agriculture.

Looking for a farming opportunity in which to gain experience, build equity, and the chance to raise our kids around a farm.

Housing on the farm would be preferred.

My ideal set-up would allow for multi-species grazing, a couple high tunnels for starting and selling transplants, and a building that would be conducive to boarding dogs for immediate cash flow as I network the area.

I have multiple years of animal husbandry experience and did a 9 month intensive vegetable production program. While I have some experience, I’m open to a mentorship arrangement to help network in the area.

CSA, farmers markets and retail are all potential outlets, likely in that order. I have experience writing business plans for this endeavor that continues to evolve. Ultimately it will be dictated by location and set-up. On-site housing is necessary/ideal.

Entering Farmer #20101

I am a young energetic grower looking to take on land for organic crop and vegetable production. I have many years of on farm experience and have a B.S. in agronomy. I believe that farming can be done in a sustainable organic fashion.

Start family farm saving resources by becoming self-sufficient growing crops and raising livestock.

Looking for to lease land or lease to purchase land.  Willing to fix up a house in need of repairs.  Looking for 50 to 250 acres and to farm organically.  Potentially grow vegetable seed production using biodynamic methods.

Areas I’m looking to see find land:  Bedford, Blair, Franklin, Lancaster, or York counties.

Entering Farmer 20136

I’ve worked as a farmhand, harvester, farm-educator and seasonal National Park Ranger.

Interested in Central and Eastern PA farmland, with a slight preference for: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton or Philadelphia.

Ideally looking for 10-50+ acres for purchase, close to protected land.

Entering Farmer 20160

I’m looking to buy or lease farmland in order to start a career in farming and turn it into my main source of income.  Looking for 5-20 acres depending on the situation.

In 2022 I am farming approximately 9 acres of leased land in South Jersey and selling to restaurants and consumers in the Philadelphia area

My vision is for an organic and sustainable operation with a special focus on marketable plants that are native to the Americas (sunflower, beans, corn, zucchini, pumpkin, marigolds, blueberries, strawberries, bell peppers, etc), but other marketable crops will still play a role. Free-range poultry could be added to the operation, but my main focus would be the crops. If I receive training, I’m open to other livestock/dairy as well, as long as they’re free-range and pasture-fed.

Instead of artificial fertilizer, I will rely on sustainable farming practices (three sisters). Instead of pesticides, I’ll get help from my neighbors (ladybugs, praying mantises, and wasps). By avoiding monoculture at all costs, I believe I can save myself a lot of headache later on.

There is a huge market for sustainable, local food grown by small farmers. I will focus my marketing efforts on those niche restaurants, grocery stores, and farmers’ markets in the nearby urban areas. I think that current events across the nation will only increase the demand for locally-produced food at least through to the end of this decade.

I’ve been successfully gardening most of my life (starting in childhood), but have been severely limited by the amount of space available in the city. I’ve never added artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, etc, and I don’t ever intend to. Most of my urban backyard experience is in vegetables, fruits, herbs, but I also have limited experience with poultry. I think that rotating well-diversified crops with free-range pasture is key to a successful, “chemical-free”, sustainable farm which won’t deplete the soil in the long-term. I’m not afraid to get dirty, to work hard, to wake up early, of getting bit by mosquitoes, or of cold or hot temperatures. Hard work and working through the elements is worth it when I see my final product.

Housing with land is a plus but I am flexible.

I am a Penn State graduate. I am looking to make my debut into the ecotourism industry. I specialize in training Aussies. I am a huge lover of alpacas and am looking for a place to begin growing a herd.

I have experience in animal husbandry, gardening, building and construction. I have a growing interest in beekeeping as well.

My husband is a professional photographer. My ultimate goal is to create a special place to host groups of inner-city kids, formerly incarcerated and underserved communities to learn more about farming and enjoy the great outdoors.

Entering Farmer 20178

I’m a first-generation farmer interested in livestock production as a means to improve land and mitigate climate change. I dived headfirst into farming in 2020 when I took an internship in the Adirondacks of New York on a goat dairy and diversified livestock farm. At the peak of the pandemic, I moved to live and work as an intern at Asgaard Farm & Dairy in upstate NY.

My responsibilities there varied widely, and I improved my skills in many areas: animal husbandry rotational grazing and pasture management; making and packaging hundreds of pounds of cheese daily; operating farmers’ markets and managing online sales and marketing; record keeping from animal chores to inventory upkeep; and more. It was during this season that I discovered my love of farming and committed to a lifelong career of producing and promoting food made well.

The next season, I was accepted into the Rodale Institute’s Farmer Training Program and relocated to the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania to work on this highly respected and well-known organic research farm. With a team, we grew a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers and served a 100 member CSA and a couple of markets in underserved communities in surrounding cities. This work was supplemented with educational experiences: classes on topics from soil health to financial management and drawing up a business plan, as well as visits to surrounding farms, retailers, and food system operations. My first year here was an absolutely incredible experience but I especially gravitated towards the livestock component of the program. I helped raise pastured pigs, broilers and laying hens, Thanksgiving turkeys, and a small herd of steers under the guidance of my mentors.

For this upcoming season, I am planning on following through on the second-year track of the RIFT program. The second year will hone in on team management and tractor skills and further develop my business plan and strategy for my own operation. With all the connections I have made at the Rodale Institute, I intend to find the right opportunity to develop a profitable and sustainable business. While the specific details of the future remain open-ended, I have a very clear idea of my values and goals and trust that my previous experiences will guide me along to the right situation.

Our family has always rented, and I have a goal of being the first to own a farm. I want to own my own farm to pass on to my own future generations or to someone that wants to continue the legacy of farming.

I am very passionate about ag and farming. Currently milking 125 dairy cows with my dad, this farm girl isn’t afraid to work hard and get her hands dirty.

Interested in any county in Pennsylvania as well as Frederick or Harford Counties in Maryland.

I am a former Marine currently working in healthcare IT. I currently have no farming experience but feel my experience in IT would help collect and analyze data for an efficient farming operation.

Rutgers Turfgrass graduate 2006, working in ground care most my life. I have category 7 pesticide license. I garden and have a small orchard and make syrup every year. I’m blessed with the ability and knowledge to grow, however, have financial constraints making leasing land difficult.
I’ve been golf course superintendent at Berkleigh Country Club in Kutztown before moving home and taking a job as assistant at Glen Oak. I left golf for 13 years and worked for a small fence company which is now the largest on east coast. From there I took a job as a field operator pumping wells in Bradford and Lycoming for 4 years. I then got back into the golf industry and took a superintendent job for four seasons. Most recently I was the superintendent at Greystone.
Currently I’m working in the landscaping industry. I’m looking for an opportunity to farm. I am creative and able to make the most out of the resources available. I currently live in Northeastern Luzerne County, looking for something within a reasonable distance from there.

I am a first generation dairy farer looking to start farming on my own. I have my own herd of cows and am in need of land to rent.

Entering Farmer #20262

Organic vegetable farmer with 15 years experience currently running established certified organic farm on leased ground looking to ideally purchase or secure long term lease. Current lease ending in 3 years(early 2026). Ideally looking for 4-10 acres with house available. Additional infrastructure always a plus.

I’m looking for a dairy farm to work in to ownership. I have 18 years experience working on dairy farms including being a herdsman on a 650 cow dairy and for the last 7 years have ran and managed a 50 cow dairy.

I’m very good with cows, crops, and operating equipment. Due to the location of the farm I’m currently running and the distance to the surrounding farms we may not have a milk hauler in the future so I am hoping to get a farm of my own in a better area.

I’m open to most any offers, just would like to start something while I’m still young enough to justify the input.

Entering Farmer #20269

We are a family of 6 living in Allegheny County.

I am a graduate of the Bidwell Training Center Horticulture Program and completed a 1-month internship at Quiet Creek Herb Farm and School of County Living where I harvested a variety of medicinal herbs (not Cannabis) and prepared them for sale in the farm shop. The farm practiced permaculture style growing including vermiculture, composting, humanure, huglecultre, mushroom logs, high tunnels, and raised beds.

I have some previous work experience in non-profit bookkeeping and an interest in natural textiles and home sewing. My husband manages the photo department for a professional sports team but is looking for a career change that would allow him to work from home.

We are interested in a permaculture land stewardship partnership, possibly with him helping to market a CSA or farm business and me helping with growing/bookkeeping while continuing to homeschool our children.

We have been working to make this a financial possibility and have been debt free (except for a small mortgage) for about 8 years. We could possibly have an extra income stream if we rent out our current home.

We do not want to start completely from scratch, so a mentorship leading to succession would be ideal.
