Entering Farmer 20029

Hello, I’m a farmer with a 26-year marriage and 2 sons. I’m looking for a farm (30 acres or greater) to put down family roots. I grew up actively farming 80 acres, with 5 years off for military service.  I have a strong mechanical/maintenance background, I was in 4-H beef club from 8-18, experienced with raising grain and hay crops, looking to expand into vegetables, and developing a CSA.

I’m well-employed in an 9-5 Federal job, have no debt, own my home, have an aggressive start on a down payment.  I’d like to develop a relationship with a farmer seeking to retire, but who’d like to pass on their tradition and allow me to maintain an operating budget as the ground is returned from fallow. My desire is to acquire a farm, not a potential development property, so I’m just fine with a few PA hills and groundhog holes.

Heaven and Earth farms is a family owned, start-up farming operation. We are a family of homeschoolers who understand the strength in uniting to make our communities better. We believe in helping our local community grow stronger through education, awareness, most of all, preserving farmland and keeping farming alive and thriving from our generation to the next.

Heaven and Earths is seeking to lease a property to build and grow our farm. We have attended the Beginner Farmer’s workshop through PA Farm Link. With the assistance and resources of PA Farm Link, Heaven and Earth farms will be able to build a successful enterprise structured to survive for many generations. Our goal is to find a suitable property with a long-term lease that will allow us to build a successful farming operation and ultimately purchase the property.

Although Heaven and Earth farms is a start-up operation, we have experience with small livestock, poultry, and have worked with rescue horses for over six years. We have also been very active in 4-H clubs and showing livestock at county fairs. We have done numerous community fundraisers for animal rescues and 4-H projects. We are a family operation and we believe in uniting people to create strong, healthy futures for our community.

We plan to begin with horse boarding and raising small livestock (interest in Angora goats and Pygora goats they produce lustrous fiber known as mohair).

Then we will expand to growing select organic crops. We believe in creating a sustainable farming situation that allows for profits all year round. We are very interested in Hydroponic farming. Having multiple streams of income will allow Heaven and Earth farms to sustain steady profits and keep the farm engaged in the community all year instead of only seasonally. In today’s market, being a constant presence in the community is vital to growing farms. From farmer’s markets to livestock sales, to on-site programs, Heaven and Earth farms will be an irreplaceable staple in the community.

I am 35 years old and have been growing organic vegetables and raising free range organic poultry for over 25 years. Everything is grown from compost and aquaponic (fish) fertilizers. Growing up the son of a coal miner in a coal miner family I’ve seen firsthand the destruction that man has done to itself and to the environment! That’s why at a young age I decided that wasn’t the life for me and I began raising and growing my own food. Always wishing and wanting to make organic living a way of life for everyone as a sustainable resource and business/educational center.

Currently located in Schuylkill County.  Willing to relocate anywhere in Pennsylvania for the right farm situation.

I’m looking for anywhere from 1-2 acres to 100+ acres – we can start small and build up. Or are willing to help an established farm gain and reach its full potential.

-Would want to try to set up a partnership or some kind of lease to own agreement as long as it’s fair to both parties it can be worked out.

-I’m looking to grow and raise organic vegetables, fruits, poultry, and use all the resources from the land whenever possible.

-Goal is to create organic gardens, old fashioned smoked meats shop and smokehouse, and market and take orders online that we would fill and either ship or deliver the product to the client.

-Set up roadside stand as well as farmers markets and online orders to build revenue from vegetables and poultry

-Expand business to create an educational center for children and young adults with developmental and learning disabilities where we would teach the whole process of growing and raising your own food. Also teach them how to work and learn in a positive caring environment. So that no one has to live in fear!

-Would want to live on the farm if possible, either renting a house or putting a mobile home on land to ensure flock/herd and plants are taken care of properly!

-Goal is to install water/wind/solar generation systems to have no electrical grid demand in 5-7 years

-Can start growing conventional and work towards Organic label if needed, I have my own method for fertilizers that works well for over 20 years and it’s all organic.

-Teach others the benefits to your health with living organic as well as the great taste

My step son and step daughter along with their mother will be living on the farm with me. I have been teaching them a lot of things over the past 6 years I’ve been with them. Since I’ve been “Dad” and they finally had a father that was able to be there for them. My 2 children along with my father are my inspiration for building the learning center with the organic gardens. My son, age 17, wants to help me run the farm and is making great progress learning, he has Asperger’s, a type of autism, along with PTSD from seeing a horrific crime when he was 2. My daughter, age 14, has dyslexia and struggles everyday along with my son trying to learn even the easiest assignments from school. But when you take them out of the town and out into nature that fear seems to go away for all of us and we can learn to live organic and help others in the process! To not just survive in this cruel world just getting by.  We want to THRIVE and help others get past their fears and do so as well!

We are a father/son team from Pine Grove. My dad has been raising crops and vegetable his entire life and has passed on his love of growing and caring for plants to me. We do farm a few acres conventionally but our focus and passion is in certified organic farming.

We are blessed to have some excellent employees, and with their help we’ve grown from a small 40 acre farm in Pine Grove, to covering a few hundred acres of mixed hay and crops in Schuylkill county. We are based in Pine Grove, but will travel up to an hour away depending on the opportunity. Our goal is not to be a large operation, but to do the best that we are capable of. That means that we care for the land that we lease the same as what we own.

There are no shortcuts to quality and we invest aggressively in bringing all of our land up to its peak fertility and production. Land that is well cared for not only produces premium crops, but it also enables us to pay higher rent to the landowner. We are happy to offer some of the highest rent per acre available in our area. We place a premium on our relationships with the landowner and are glad to listen and incorporate their ideas into our land management practices.

Farm family looking to lease land to crop – anywhere from 100-500 acres in the Tioga County area.  No housing needed.

I grew up as a conventional dairy farmer for about 12 years and learned that milking cows was not really my thing, but I loved the equipment and working the land. So in 2009 I did an internship in Texas, for organic livestock production. There I learned that there was another way other than conventional farming, that actually helps people live healthier lives. Since then to pay the bills I’ve worked with my father doing a completely different business. But have always had the desire to get back into farming.

In 2020 my father and I started a business plan to start and ramp up an organic, no-till crop farm to the point where we can go full time and sell our other business by the year 2024. So now we are in the first year of the business plan which includes finding land and getting our feet wet in this new adventure into organic no-till farming. My father is a marketing genius and I am well versed in the way farms work and production. So together with our wives, we make a great team.

Honestly, we are tired of the office work that never ends in corporate America. It has been my dream to be a crop farmer, forever.  Now we are in the position to actually do it and be debt-free so we are going for it. The vision is to get as many acres as possible under our farm to start turning our local land back into high organic matter, high-yielding, low erosion land once again. It’s no secret that conventional farming is killing our land, whether it’s from erosion of the tillage, or the chemicals, my goal is to bring back farming to the way it was meant to be, big tractors and no synthetic inputs.

My husband and I met in college in Philadelphia in 2009. I studied and completed my Photography degree at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. My husband studied and completed his Mechanical Engineering degree at Drexel University. Growing up in the Philadelphia suburbs during the 1990s and 2000s, we witnessed the transformation and growth of the craft beer industry in the Greater Philadelphia Area, which is one of the most advanced craft beer marketplaces in the nation. Upon graduation, we settled into our respective careers, but in 2012 sought a common hobby for weekend leisure and decided to experiment with making wine and ciders. After enjoying our first batches of homemade cider, we spent three years molding our business idea. We worked with our local Blackstone Launchpad and SBDC while taking extensive coursework through Penn State Extension.

With research and coursework under our belt, we began to search for a home for our business. After looking for commercial space, I suggested identifying a residential property that could support a home-based occupation. We spent several months researching zoning codes for Greater Philadelphia region municipalities. Initially, we hoped to find a property with acreage where we could plant trees for the cidery. Quickly we found the restrictions on acreage minimums for agriculturally supported businesses would be tough to meet within our budget. Our search narrowed to include a property with an outbuilding leaving the land for an orchard as a future goal. In late 2015, we purchased our home and began the licensing process in early 2016 after creating our LLC. Our first cider went into the bottle on May 22, 2017. We had also established relationships with local bar and brewery owners. By the end of 2017, our ciders were in about ten retail locations, a few farmers’ markets, and we had released our second product.

In 2018, a friendly couple told us of a local doctor and his wife during an early spring market day. They had planted an orchard of cider-specific apples very near us. A partnership blossomed after meeting them, seeing their orchard, and giving them a tour of the early cidery. They have been incredibly welcoming and have become an integral part of our growth as both our teams learn the ins and outs of orcharding together, plus its impact on cider making. This partnership has allowed us to apply the knowledge of fruit tree management we’ve gained over the years to a working site and brought our dream of orcharding back into the present. The orchard site is located less than 10 minutes from our current production space. The property owners manage the spray program and maintain the orchard’s infrastructure. We manage the strategy and implementation of pruning. Harvesting and storage is a team effort with much room to grow as the orchard has just begun to hit its stride in the 2021 harvest year.

Our goal is to incorporate our own orchard into our lineup of products that represent the many PA orchards we work with. We’d like to have an orchard site where we will be responsible for all aspects from variety selection to daily maintenance. Our preference would be to stay in Chester County but for the right situation, would consider Delaware, Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, and York counties. Looking for 1-10 acres.

Entering Farmer 20160

I’m looking to buy or lease farmland in order to start a career in farming and turn it into my main source of income.  Looking for 5-20 acres depending on the situation.

In 2022 I am farming approximately 9 acres of leased land in South Jersey and selling to restaurants and consumers in the Philadelphia area

My vision is for an organic and sustainable operation with a special focus on marketable plants that are native to the Americas (sunflower, beans, corn, zucchini, pumpkin, marigolds, blueberries, strawberries, bell peppers, etc), but other marketable crops will still play a role. Free-range poultry could be added to the operation, but my main focus would be the crops. If I receive training, I’m open to other livestock/dairy as well, as long as they’re free-range and pasture-fed.

Instead of artificial fertilizer, I will rely on sustainable farming practices (three sisters). Instead of pesticides, I’ll get help from my neighbors (ladybugs, praying mantises, and wasps). By avoiding monoculture at all costs, I believe I can save myself a lot of headache later on.

There is a huge market for sustainable, local food grown by small farmers. I will focus my marketing efforts on those niche restaurants, grocery stores, and farmers’ markets in the nearby urban areas. I think that current events across the nation will only increase the demand for locally-produced food at least through to the end of this decade.

I’ve been successfully gardening most of my life (starting in childhood), but have been severely limited by the amount of space available in the city. I’ve never added artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, etc, and I don’t ever intend to. Most of my urban backyard experience is in vegetables, fruits, herbs, but I also have limited experience with poultry. I think that rotating well-diversified crops with free-range pasture is key to a successful, “chemical-free”, sustainable farm which won’t deplete the soil in the long-term. I’m not afraid to get dirty, to work hard, to wake up early, of getting bit by mosquitoes, or of cold or hot temperatures. Hard work and working through the elements is worth it when I see my final product.

Housing with land is a plus but I am flexible.

Entering Farmer 20162

Looking for 5+ acres in the Bucks or Montgomery County area.  Prefer a long term lease or lease to buy option.

I started operation on our small family-run pet care business in 2019 just before Covid as a side gig to help bring in additional money for our household, through Rover.com. Much to my surprise things took off very quickly, until Covid hit. Once Covid hit I was laid off from my main job as a travel agent, no pet care reservations were coming in due to suspended travel, and in addition, my husband’s Lupus took a bad turn in November of 2020 leaving him unable to work. These circumstances left me to be the primary financial provider for my family of 5 and my husband’s caregiver.

During all of this, I continued to build our book of business for our pet care business slowly and opened Stop, Drop & Stroll Petcare. We offer private dog boarding, daycare, and grooming for pups 40lbs and under. My business has grown exponentially in the past 9 months to the point where we are turning down clientele (which we really do not like doing).

With this new growth, we have fallen in love with the idea of the potential to open an organic dog farm! This would be a place where dogs feel at home, providing a low-stress and free-range environment to run and play all day. With that, I would also like to farm on this land to produce and organic dog food and treat products. I would like to have the space to double our current occupancy as our growth does allow for this expansion. With a 5-year projection, I would like to add a mobile grooming element to our business to expand on the grooming portion of the business and add a dog training component as a business offering as well.

Housing on the property is ideal.  If no housing would look at possibility of moving a large modular home on the property.

As an Equine Professional with a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Studies and 12 years of experience, I am looking for land to establish or expand my retirement horse boarding business on.

I am looking for 5 to 60 acres with fencing and buildings on the land or option to build on the property. Housing is a plus but not required. I am working towards owning a horse retirement business that will include but not limited to boarding, breeding, training and rehabilitation. Additional aspirations: starting a small livestock operation (goats and chicken).

I am looking to buy, lease, or lease to own land in PA in the Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming, or Columbia counties.
