Seeking 5–10 Acres for Family Homestead and Small-Scale Farming in Pennsylvania

My family and I are looking for 5–10 acres in Pennsylvania to establish a family homestead and small-scale farm. Our goal is to live on the land, become more self-sufficient, and produce much of our own food while generating some supplemental income through the sale of crops and livestock.

We are interested in land suitable for a combination of vegetable gardening, fruit trees, orchard development, and raising livestock such as chickens, sheep, and goats. Ideally, the property would offer a mix of open or tillable land and wooded areas, with sufficient space for a home, barn, greenhouse, gardens, and animal enclosures.

We are open to vacant land, undeveloped acreage, or properties with existing farm infrastructure. We prefer fully wooded vacant land with mature trees. We will do the necessary work.

Affordable land with good agricultural potential, reliable water access, suitable soil, and residential building possibilities is a priority. We would also consider properties that require gradual improvements as we develop the farm over time.

We envision a practical, family-oriented homestead focused primarily on subsistence farming, with a modest commercial component to help offset operating expenses and support long-term sustainability.

My family of 4 is looking to move to Pennsylvania and own farm land to develop a farm/homestead on. My husband is looking for a construction job to support our family as I will stay home with the kids and raise animals/grow crops. I have experience with chickens, quails, rabbits, mainly but some experience with other animals and gardening. I am looking for a farm not huge like commercial size but not small. Medium size farm, 10 or more acres. We want cows, chickens, quail, rabbits, sheep, goats. We want to raise animals for their eggs, manure, and meat. We also want to start a farm store and grow things like pumpkins, microgreens, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, apples, figs, and so much more. I homeschool my 2 children and would like a big enough house to foster children as well. So I am looking for a farm home with at least 4 bedrooms. But we can always add a home or more room if there is enough room on the acres.
My husband is an electrician, but he wants to eventually quit and farm with me. The most we can really afford is about $250,000. Or we could do owner financing if that is an option. My passion and dream is to farm. I’ve always loved animals, they bring me peace and joy. We are also hoping there would be some sort of forest on the property or room enough to grow some trees.

My goals for farming is to continue to care for the land in a sustainable easy while providing nourishing products for the community. Growing up I always said I wanted to be a farmer and my first job was working at the local farmer’s market where I learned about local food and seasons. After college, I spent three years as an intern for a local organic CSA called Prescott’s Patch. Currently, I am a patent paralegal for the large equipment manufacturer Case New Holland.

I grew up dairy farming on my grandparents farm. They have now excited But I got into grassfed beef last year starting a small herd of registered Red Devon pairs. My goal is to eventually be able to be self sufficient through farming.

I’m currently a Project Manager with 18 years experience in IT, business improvement and workforce development. I have a great desire to become a farmer. For the past 6 years I’ve been preparing in various ways: helping my mom with her 19 bed garden and small 10 tree orchard, taking classes on permaculture with people like Andrew Millison and Joel Salatin and others. I’ve had an indoor garden and even tried hydroponics (not so easy in an apartment lol). I’ve learned a lot about preservation, succession and perennial planting, earth works, building soil, no till systems, composting, mulching, silvopasture, multispecie rotational grazing, and managing water. ive studied a lot about micro farms and market gardens from people like Richard Perkins, Heifer USA, and the Sheperdess. I also did a week long “farm school” with the Climate Farm School in upstate NY where we visited a number of farms to learn from them and their business models and also get some hands on experience moving and milking cows using machines. I’ve also helped a friend farmer in west virginia with his sheep, goats and chickens.

My long term goal is to have a farm business that more than just takes care of me, that also helps other people.  I would love to have a farm to table retreat or recovery program where people incorporate farming into their therapy.
I would like to become a farmer practicing regenerative and permaculture principles that can offer diverse products. I would like to do this with and for my family and be part of a community of people who prioritize land, animals, family and community stewardship.

I’m open to different land partnership arrangements but eventually I would like a farm of my own so ideally in the least,  I would prefer a work to own relationship. I think one of the benefits of this program is the opportunity to come alongside people who have more experience and learn from their successes and mistakes. I recognize that some of the practices are new to traditional farming and would like the opportunity to also share some new methods. I wouldn’t mind buying a farm and the previous owners retire on the land, as long as there’s room for me to also live there and grow.

Wanting to get on a piece of property and learn to farm to support my family and our country. I know farmers are a dying breed and has been goal of mine to work my own piece of land. I have limited experience in agriculture. Currently have 14 chickens and small garden with the limited space I have. I have worked in construction my whole life. I’m currently a superintendent for a dirt work company. What I lack in experience in farming I make up for in work ethic. Not dead set on any particular path in terms of what to farm. I’d like to farm the type of stock that is most needed in our state to help support our country whatever that may be weather is livestock, agriculture or a combination of both.

I currently own and operate Mountain View Acres. I currently lease about 10 acres from my neighbor. Being a pasture based poultry farm I raise broilers chickens seasonally, March to Oct, and have a laying flock of hens that are moved and housed in mobile coops. With being a pasture based farm I have created a niche market that allows me to be direct to consumer and having some wholesale accounts as well.

Last year we stared home delivery services which is important to give convenience to the customer but also allows me to potentially move to different parts of the state without affecting my sales since we have no brick and motar store.
I’m also in the process of finding partner farms to be a one stop shop Food Hub for consumers who like the convenience of home delivery.
My ideal farm would be big enough to have my family live on the farm, decent infrastructure to rehab or remodel and enough land to branch out from just chickens. A small mixed use, highly diverse farm. The kids want to start their own farm ventures as well.

I am a journey farmer. I have worked on two farms in the last three years developing m skills and knowledge. I am interested in finding land where I can begin a small operation to grow vegetables, berries, fruit and raise livestock (Layers, broilers, pigs, rabbits etc.) My goal is to first improve the conditions of land by using permaculture designs, agroforestry integration, and regenerative practices to improve soil, water and biodiversity. I am aiming to produce a succession of annual and perennial crops that can be converted into value=added products and utilize the space so that it can be attractive holistically with the opportunity for stackable enterprises. I am looking to secure approximately 3 to 40 acres to begin this journey with the help of family, friends and close farmer relationships.
