I own a 120 acre grass finishing beef farm in south west Pennsylvania. We basically run an organic farm as we do not use pesticides , herbicides or any type of chemical on our grasses or with any of our cattle. I am looking for a similar type farm south of us that I can take approximately 10 -20 18 month old hefers and steers for 4-6 months

Wanting to get on a piece of property and learn to farm to support my family and our country. I know farmers are a dying breed and has been goal of mine to work my own piece of land. I have limited experience in agriculture. Currently have 14 chickens and small garden with the limited space I have. I have worked in construction my whole life. I’m currently a superintendent for a dirt work company. What I lack in experience in farming I make up for in work ethic. Not dead set on any particular path in terms of what to farm. I’d like to farm the type of stock that is most needed in our state to help support our country whatever that may be weather is livestock, agriculture or a combination of both.

My husband and I both grew up in central Pennsylvania and have deep family roots in farming. Both of our grandfathers operated beef farms, raising cattle and growing grain. My husband spent much of his childhood summers working on his grandfather’s farm and continues to return several times a year to help with the farm. His grandfather is still actively farming today, and agriculture has remained an important part of our family and our lives.
While my farming experience has been on a much smaller scale, I have always had a strong interest in gardening and growing food. After moving to Florida, I transformed our quarter-acre residential lot into what we consider our own small urban farm. We currently have more than 20 fruit trees, a vegetable garden, composting, and chickens. Managing our property has given me practical experience with growing food, caring for animals, improving soil, planning around available space, and making productive use of a relatively small piece of land.
Our long-term goal is to return to Pennsylvania and establish a small family farm. We envision a property with an orchard, space for a greenhouse and garden, goats, and an area for woodworking and other hands-on projects. We are interested in building a diversified, sustainable farm that provides both food for our family and opportunities to develop the property into a productive agricultural operation over time.
We both currently work remotely and expect to continue doing so, which would allow us to purchase and begin developing the farm while maintaining our current careers. Initially, the farm would be a part-time or hobby operation while we learn the land, establish the orchard and other infrastructure, and gradually expand our agricultural activities. Our goal is to transition to farming full-time when we retire in approximately ten years.
Returning to Pennsylvania is also important to us personally. Most of our extended family remains in Pennsylvania, and owning a farm there would allow us to be closer to family while returning to the agricultural environment in which we were both raised. We see this as a long-term family investment and a second career rather than simply a property purchase. Our goal is to build the farm gradually, learn from the experience of our family and other local farmers, and ultimately create a productive small farm that we can operate and enjoy for many years.

Pittsburgh-based urban farmer, grower, and educator with over 5 seasons in annual vegetable and herb production, seed keeping, and food systems work. I grow culturally important crops and seeds, and also have experience with edible landscape and native plants. My practice is rooted in regenerative agriculture and agroecology. I hold ServSafe Manager and PSA Grower certifications. In addition to production, I am interested in hosting workshops, farm events, and hands-on programming on the land. Small-scale livestock (chickens, ducks, and/or goats) is an area I am actively looking to learn and build experience in. I’m looking to steward at least 1 acre of land in Western PA, ideally with housing and existing farm infrastructure: water/utility access, pack and wash, cold storage, and/or high tunnels. Open to mentorship, long-term stewardship, or transition arrangements.

I grew up with grandparents who had dairy cows, they milked until my Nan had a stroke. They then switched over to beef – black angus. I milked cows at a local farm through high school and nursing school. I became an RN, met my husband who is also a RN. We have two kids and want to farm. We currently have goats, sheep, and chickens but don’t have the room to expand where we are now.

I was raised around agriculture and livestock and have hands-on experience with beef cattle, sheep, poultry, gardening, food production, and farm-based businesses. Agriculture has always been an important part of my life, and my goal is to continue building a diversified family farm focused on livestock production, responsible land stewardship, and sustainable practices. I am especially interested in raising beef cattle, sheep, and poultry while utilizing available acreage for pasture, hay, and crop production to support the operation. I also have experience with business management, bookkeeping, marketing, retail food sales, and working with locally produced agricultural products, which gives me a strong foundation for developing a profitable farm business. My long-term goal is to create a productive, sustainable operation that provides quality locally raised food, supports my family, and allows my children to remain involved in agriculture and learn the value of caring for the land and livestock for future generations.

I am looking for a decent sized portion of land in Western PA that would be an appropriate size to start a family compound style homestead on. It would be for 3 couples and I am looking for room for a greenhouse or crops to support ourselves, as well as some pasture for home grown animals for meat. I have no experience in this and am looking for a good place to start.

I’m a current resident of Johnstown PA, however; I am searching for property in Indiana PA, 15701. I grew up on a rented farm with my family where we had a few horses, pheasants, and would raise a pig and beef for food. I’m a trained herbalist and currently looking for a small farm (8-10 acres) to cultivate herbs and run an educational facility to teach others about herbs, gardening, and homesteading. I also plan to cultivate a few herbal crops that can be sold for medicinal use. I’m not planning to have livestock at this time.
