My husband and I are beginner farmers currently enrolled in the Beginner Farmer Training Program at Rutgers University. Currently we own a small farmette in Burlington County, New Jersey where we raise small stature dairy animals including registered Nigerian Dwarf goats and Miniature Cattle (Jersey’s and Belted Galloway-Dexter crosses). We also have pastured poultry and sell eggs to local customers. Recently, we have started a market garden where we grow vegetables intensively in a small space. I am a bread baker and will be applying for a cottage food permit in order to sell my bread along with the produce that we grow next season. Off of the farm, I work part-time as a pediatric nurse practitioner and my husband is a full-time machine operator for the local gas company. Growing up, my uncle had a beef operation in Potter County, Pennsylvania. Though he no longer actively farms, he still resides on the land and is our mentor. We are looking to purchase a larger farm property so that we can expand our current operation which would include beef and possibly a micro dairy in the future!

My wife and I have been discussing our eventual business for many years. We’ve considered restaurants and franchise purchases, but we have declined these opportunities as none fully fulfilled our entrepreneurial desires. She has an especial passion for mushrooms — her first job was in a farmer’s market mushroom stand at the age of 13. Our shared vision has crystallized around growing and foraging mushrooms, producing at least one agronomic crop, and producing surplus solar power.

In terms of agronomic crops, I am especially interested in Western Pennsylvania’s history of rye production. Organic wheat has been suggested to us.

As a systems engineer, I am especially interested in developing utilities and technical automations to facilitate agricultural processes and the conduct of agricultural business. One of my dreams is to furnish open-source solutions for entrepreneurs which facilitate the expansion of national and global food production. In the pursuit of this vision, I emphasized the study of enterprise systems and machine learning while obtaining my Master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon University.

In the past I was a grower of herbs and native plants….always organic and sustainable and I had the same standards for my landscape design and install business. Of special concern and interest to me is our native trees that are being destroyed by insects and disease. So in addition to growing plants, I want to work with trees. Starting out I will continue working as a mental health therapist for substance disorder clients in order to make payments to purchase the farm. In addition to what I described above, I want to establish and orchard and vegetable production. Ideally the location would be suitable for selling plants and produce from the farm….a small farm store.

As I am writing this it brings back memories of my grandparents farm which was in Clearfield County, and the largest poultry farm in the region (organic, sustainable, and my siblings and I working along side of our dad planting crops and gathering eggs and helping out in the store. There was also twi acres of vegetable gardening on iur damily property as well that kept us busy and out of trouble all summer. We drank raw milk. No one we knew was using dangerous chemicals then. So I bring this life time of experience to what I plan to do now.

At the farm I also want to be passing on to others my knowledge about herbs, native plants, and much more, through classes at the farm. Demonstrate a better way of living and raising families.

I hope to find a farm or homestead in these Allegheny and Appalachian mountain areas where I am so happy….the fresh air and abundance of mountain water. I am at Boalsburg presently. Though I will consider other rural areas as well: I lived in Mechanicsburg previously so I know there is good agricultural soil in Cumberland and York Counties. There are many areas with good soil to farm in Pennsylvania.

Ideally there is a farm that is organic and sustainable….or not farmed for many years if it was farmed by conventional methods. A farm where the owner would be willing to sell directly to me. If possible with lower payments fir a few years starting out, as I establish and build my gardens and inventory.

I would be a good match fir someone who wants to pass on our history and heritage in Pennsylvania. I was the oldest grandchild of elderly grandparents and older parents, so there is what I have learned through them about times long before I was born.

I am also interested in nutrition and I am considered a good cook and some have called me a chef. Maybe I could have a small restaurant at the farm as well. My hopes and dreams. There is do much culturally lost we need to be teaching.

I have thought about farm animals. Most likely I will have some chickens. It would be great to have a pond with fish. I want mature trees and woods for my kitties to roan. I will get a dog or two. I need to spend my time and energy developing the growing of herbs and native plants and trees. Depending how much land there is, maybe pastures could be established for cows, steers, goats or lambs.

I would consider any size farm or homestead. ideally at least 40 acres -300+. I would consider less. However, I have very good administrative skills and I am capable of managing much more.

Husband and Wife team passionate about small-scale organic cut flower farming. We are looking for a small farm (3-10 acres) to expand our cut flower business. Interested in staying in the Pittsburgh area but would entertain other areas if its the right situation (even the east side of the state). The current business is more of a hobby (not main source of income) but would like to transition into a more serious operation. We are very passionate about building a balanced ecosystem on the farm and preserving the land as much as possible.

I am a father of three with a full time job in Information Technology. I am looking to purchase approximately 10-20 acres of farmland in order to start a Christmas tree farm. Ideally I would be working part time on the farm with my wife and children until I retire from my regular job and then hopefully move over to tree farming full time . I hope to eventually work toward a cut-your-own tree farm, but may try to sell trees by purchasing them wholesale while my trees to grow. I have experience planting many Fraser fir trees on my 2+ acre property as well as with irrigation, herbicide and pesticide. Development rights to the land is a plus but not a necessity. Mainly looking for an area in Berks, Upper Montgomery or Southern Lehigh counties.

I am a proud husband and daddy to four little boys. I work full time as a teacher and I am trying to start a small farm on the side. I have already planted two acres of Christmas trees and two dozen fruit trees, all by hand. I hope to have my first batch of trees to sell in four years. I also keep bees. I would like to expand into raising beef or more Christmas trees.

I want to start a lavender farm in PA for two reasons: honey production with bees (I am a beekeeper already) and selling lavender flowers. I also want to make and sell soaps and natural oils I can extract from the raw products I harvest. I am also a hobbyist cheese maker and plan to include a small dairy farm to make and sell homemade cheeses.
