In the past I was a grower of herbs and native plants….always organic and sustainable and I had the same standards for my landscape design and install business. Of special concern and interest to me is our native trees that are being destroyed by insects and disease. So in addition to growing plants, I want to work with trees. Starting out I will continue working as a mental health therapist for substance disorder clients in order to make payments to purchase the farm. In addition to what I described above, I want to establish and orchard and vegetable production. Ideally the location would be suitable for selling plants and produce from the farm….a small farm store.
As I am writing this it brings back memories of my grandparents farm which was in Clearfield County, and the largest poultry farm in the region (organic, sustainable, and my siblings and I working along side of our dad planting crops and gathering eggs and helping out in the store. There was also twi acres of vegetable gardening on iur damily property as well that kept us busy and out of trouble all summer. We drank raw milk. No one we knew was using dangerous chemicals then. So I bring this life time of experience to what I plan to do now.
At the farm I also want to be passing on to others my knowledge about herbs, native plants, and much more, through classes at the farm. Demonstrate a better way of living and raising families.
I hope to find a farm or homestead in these Allegheny and Appalachian mountain areas where I am so happy….the fresh air and abundance of mountain water. I am at Boalsburg presently. Though I will consider other rural areas as well: I lived in Mechanicsburg previously so I know there is good agricultural soil in Cumberland and York Counties. There are many areas with good soil to farm in Pennsylvania.
Ideally there is a farm that is organic and sustainable….or not farmed for many years if it was farmed by conventional methods. A farm where the owner would be willing to sell directly to me. If possible with lower payments fir a few years starting out, as I establish and build my gardens and inventory.
I would be a good match fir someone who wants to pass on our history and heritage in Pennsylvania. I was the oldest grandchild of elderly grandparents and older parents, so there is what I have learned through them about times long before I was born.
I am also interested in nutrition and I am considered a good cook and some have called me a chef. Maybe I could have a small restaurant at the farm as well. My hopes and dreams. There is do much culturally lost we need to be teaching.
I have thought about farm animals. Most likely I will have some chickens. It would be great to have a pond with fish. I want mature trees and woods for my kitties to roan. I will get a dog or two. I need to spend my time and energy developing the growing of herbs and native plants and trees. Depending how much land there is, maybe pastures could be established for cows, steers, goats or lambs.
I would consider any size farm or homestead. ideally at least 40 acres -300+. I would consider less. However, I have very good administrative skills and I am capable of managing much more.

We are a family of 6 living in Allegheny County. Emily is a recent graduate of the Bidwell Training Center Horticulture Program and has completed a 1 month internship at Quiet Creek Herb Farm and School of County Living where she harvested a variety of medicinal herbs (not Cannabis ) and prepared them for sale in the farm shop. The farm practiced permaculture style growing including vermiculture, composting, humanure, huglecultre, mushroom logs, high tunnels, and raised beds. She has some previous work experience in non-profit bookkeeping and is interested in natural textiles and home sewing. Karl manages the photo department for a professional sports team but is looking for a career change that would allow him to work from home. We are interested in a permaculture land stewardship partnership. possibly with Karl helping to market a CSA or farm business and Emily gardening and potentially homeschooling. We have been working to make this a financial possibility and have been debt free (expect for a small mortgage) for about 7 years. We could possibly have an extra income stream if we rent out our current home. We do not want to start completely from scratch, so a mentorship leading to secession would be ideal.

Husband and Wife team passionate about small-scale organic cut flower farming. We are looking for a small farm (3-10 acres) to expand our cut flower business. Interested in staying in the Pittsburgh area but would entertain other areas if its the right situation (even the east side of the state). The current business is more of a hobby (not main source of income) but would like to transition into a more serious operation. We are very passionate about building a balanced ecosystem on the farm and preserving the land as much as possible.

I am a 32 year old veteran and beginning rancher/farmer looking to lease land on which to launch a sustainable agriculture production operation. I have recently completed the veterans agricultural business training program Battleground to Breaking Ground offered by Texas A&M/Texas AgrAbility . While attending the course I obtained knowledge, skills and resources related to business management, farming, and ranching. I also refined my business proposal which lays out my phased plan to begin and grow the business for which I will produce pasture raised poultry, pork, and beef products, with a goal of eventually adding fresh produce and value added products. My first phase enterprise is pasture poultry. My plan can be adapted to scale to available land, although I am seeking a property capable of sustaining growth, an enclosed building such as a shed or barn would be a great feature.

“Find something you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life.” My family and I are dairy and crop farmers from Lancaster County, Pa and are looking for ways to expand our operation by farming more acres in the Lancaster/york area to support our growing family. We are currently the fourth generation on our farm to milk cows and farm the land that the lord has blessed us with. We complete a nutrient management plan for any acres we farm and also practice many environmentally friendly practices including no-till, cover cropping, and manure incorporation. Our farming techniques allow us to increase soil health and fertility while significantly reducing nutrient runoff. If you are looking to rent or sell your land, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
