PA Farm Link Year End Wrap-Up 2023

It’s hard to believe that we’re at the end of another year! 2023 was and exciting and successful year for PA Farm Link as we worked with many farmers to assist them with succession planning, providing resources and expertise to 40 families. Over 1800 other farmers were assisted with land access, new/beginning farmer and many other resources. 

This newsletter will provide links to many of our resources for you to peruse at your convenience, whether you are searching for land to farm, a farmer for your land, succession/transition resources or just ways to be more efficient with your current operation.

Farm Succession Workshop--York, PA

PA Farm Link will be providing their annual farm succession workshops in-person and online for farm families interested in learning more about farm succession considerations.  Attendees will hear from ag experts in law and finance as well as receive useful resources to start the farm succession planning.

Meat Marketing Workshops

PA Farm Link will be working with Matt LeRoux to offer workshops and webinars utilizing the Cornell MeatSuite program.

Learn marketing techniques and how to use the NEW Cornell Meat Pricing Tool to develop prices that deliver a profit in every channel.

2 in-person workshops will be held at the Young Ag Professionals Conference in Harriburg on February 18, 2024.

PA Farm Link Noteable Activities for 2023

PA FARM LINK ACADEMY: PFL was excited to launch this new resource for farmers. It is a gateway to valuable knowledge and resources for farmers. Our academy offers a collection of free online video courses focused on various organizations that can provide assistance and support to farmers like you. Gain insights, expand your skills, and discover opportunities to thrive in the agricultural industry.

PA AG MENTORSHIP PROGRAM: PFL is excited to continue our partnership with like-minded organizations in the agriculture community to offer this resource. Over 300 mentoring sessions were held in 2023.

The PA Agriculture Mentor Program includes six mentors with extensive agricultural backgrounds to assist beginning farmers, agribusiness entrepreneurs and farmers in troubleshooting new strategies and ideas for their farm businesses. Spearheaded by a group of Pennsylvania agricultural organizations with an interest in the future of agriculture, the program leverages SCORE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration.  The mentoring is free and confidential.

2023 was an active year for the PA Farm Link online land-linking database! PFL is happy to announce that we had 6 successful matches. Compared to the national average of 4, we were very excited to surpass that number for 2023.

PFL activated 52 new Entering Farmers searching for their ideal piece of land to begin or expand their farming operation.

Also activated were 16 new Landowner listings looking for a farmer to purchase or lease their acreage.

The PFL database has 118 Entering Farmers and 43 Landowners searching for the perfect match to make a new successful farming operation in Pennsylvania. If you are looking for a farmer to transition to or land to farm, be sure to click the appropriate link below and search our listings!
