Looking For Land In:

Entering Farmer: #20560

Farmer Information:

We are currently homesteading on 3.7 acres and would like to have a larger amount of acreage. Currently, we have a small flock of dairy sheep that we rotationally graze (5 ewes and a ram), as well as a few dairy goats and a flock of laying hens. We seek to grow as much food as we can for ourselves, our family and our neighbors.

My husband and I are in our early thirties. We have no background in farming prior to running our little homestead, but we are willing to learn and work hard, as hard as we can so that our children (and their children) have a future in this great state of Pennsylvania. My husband has a PhD in math and is currently working as a data scientist. His work is fully remote, so he is able to be very involved with the homestead chores. I previously worked as a communications coordinator for a nonprofit; I managed all the social media for that organization so I would be prepared to create marketing campaigns for any future farm endeavor via social media. I am currently a stay-at-home and homeschooling mom for our five soon to be six children.

My grandpa grew up on a family farm in SE PA but left farming to work for a food corporation, and now two generations later we are trying to find our way back to farming real food for real people. We are highly motivated to prevent the hostile takeover of American farmland by entities that have no concern for the people of this country or for the health and well-being of our children.

Current Herd Description:

We have five breeding ewes and one ram. Four of the ewes are heavily East Frisian genetics, and one is a hair breed. The ram is a Katahdin/Dorper mix. Currently offspring are exclusively for meat, the four East Frisian ewes are for milking. (I have been hand-milking sheep and goats for the last 4 years, but our production has never exceeded personal use).

We are a married couple with young kids looking for an opportunity to start farming. My grandparents were dairy farmers in Chester County and my cousins currently are dairy farmers in Montgomery County.

I currently work in the Conservation/Agricultural field in the Southeast/South Central part of the state. We don’t have much experience, several years working on several dairies and experience with processing/jugging milk, but I have always wanted to be a farmer and have a true passion for farming and agriculture.

Looking for a farming opportunity in which to gain experience, build equity, and the chance to raise our kids around a farm.

Housing on the farm would be preferred.

We currently operate a beef, crop and hay farm as well as manage a large horse farm and offer custom operator services.

We are always interested in local properties to grow our business. We began our business approximately 14 years ago. We have an 80 acre farm in Chester County and continue to grow by leasing and working with area landowners.

We are experienced, respectful and fair. We appreciate our landowners and honor a good working relationship.
