Entering Farmer: #20412

I’ve been farming for family and friends for over thirty years, mostly conventional row cropping with a few animals here or there.

My goal is to have an organic beef herd utilizing regenerative agricultural techniques. Red Devon would be my breed of choice. I’d further like to incorporate the use of other animals to balance the farm ecosystem out, thereby minimizing the wear and tear on the soil, and rebuilding the soil to healthier place with grazing animals.

I would like to incorporate crops that are under-utilized, such as flax for linen, that could provide a profitable niche.

Depending upon the location, I would like to market the products as locally as possible, but I have contacts that would be willing to purchase direct.
I’ve seen the expense of the equipment treadmill, and I would like to get away from that, and build a more sustainable business that doesn’t have such high input costs.
