Looking For Land In:

Entering Farmer: #20554

Years of Farming Experience: 6

Farmer Information:

I am excited to be moving back to the East coast where I have land access in Berks County via family. The 8-acre farm is currently being farmed by a local dairy farmer, who has grown organic feed for his herd for many years but is retiring soon. I have plans to start a small farm on this land where I want to increase the acreage of perennial food crops (apples, blueberries, and other specialty fruit crops) as well as grow organic dry/storage food crops.

I studied agriculture, ecology, and food systems at Cornell (2021) and have worked on organic farms in California for the past 4 years, as both farm manager and farm operations assistant.

Though I grew up in Philadelphia, I have never farmed in Pennsylvania and will need to significantly acquaint myself with the region and resources available there.

Agricultural Degrees / Certifications:

Cornell University – CALS – May 2021
B.S. in Environmental and Sustainability Science, concentration in Agroecology, minor in Community Food Systems
Significant (4 semesters) of agriculture classes — in soil science, soil ecology, ecology of agricultural systems, chemical ecology, conservation ecology, restoration ecology

We are a married couple with young kids looking for an opportunity to start farming. My grandparents were dairy farmers in Chester County and my cousins currently are dairy farmers in Montgomery County.

I currently work in the Conservation/Agricultural field in the Southeast/South Central part of the state. We don’t have much experience, several years working on several dairies and experience with processing/jugging milk, but I have always wanted to be a farmer and have a true passion for farming and agriculture.

Looking for a farming opportunity in which to gain experience, build equity, and the chance to raise our kids around a farm.

Housing on the farm would be preferred.

We currently operate a beef, crop and hay farm as well as manage a large horse farm and offer custom operator services.

We are always interested in local properties to grow our business. We began our business approximately 14 years ago. We have an 80 acre farm in Chester County and continue to grow by leasing and working with area landowners.

We are experienced, respectful and fair. We appreciate our landowners and honor a good working relationship.
